Skowhegan, ME
Skowhegan, Maine settled by the Abenaki Indian in the late 1700s. The location along the Kennebec River with Moosehead Lake to the North and the Atlantic Ocean to the South. White men settled the area in 1771. Skowhegan is centrally located between Quebec Canada and Old Orchard Beach.
There are many historical attractions such as Coburn Park, Dudley Corner School House, Home of Margaret Chase-Smith (First woman Senator), Skowhegan State Fair, (celebrated their 200 Year Anniversary in 2018), and the Tallest Indian Statue in the US. The Kennebec River was a source of Log Drives for many years. During World War II young boys from the town found scrap metal, hauled it to the Catholic Church parking lot for shipping to the shipyards. Skowhegan offers the History House, Schools, Libraries, Hospital, Nursing Homes, the home of New Balance Shoe Factory and Outlet, and beautiful views and recreation on the Kennebec River.

Norridgewock, ME
Norridgewock, Maine is located on the Kennebec River in the southern part of Somerset County surrounded north by Madison, east by Skowhegan, south by Fairfield and Smithfield, and west by Mercer and Starks. It has 16,000 acres. It started as a seat for an Indian tribe named by an early chief to signify “smooth water”. In early 1610 Sebastian Rasle missionary became a resident in 1687, worked with the Indians until his death in 1724. (Referred to as “Father Rasle." The original village of Norridgewock was on the north side of the river. In 1820 the Nathan Dole, the mansion was built. Also, you can view Sofie May Mansion and 3 miles from the bridge is Bombazee Rips.
There were two villages separated by a bridge; has many churches, and a library, and is home to a New Balance Factory. Year later town primarily moved to one side of the river on US Route 2. Many travel through from Skowhegan, Waterville, Smithfield, Mercer, and Farmington. They enjoy views of the Kennebec River, Oosoola Park, Mill Stream Elementary School, and much more!
